Eleven Chalford stitchers met yesterday to start making more quilts for our local women’s refuge [see Community involvement page]. We are starting by making a quilt using English paper piecing, with a simple design of 9-square blocks which we will join with sashing. That means people don’t need to lug machines along to the village hall, and can have a small portable bit of sewing to do anywhere.
We shared a delicious lunch of local cheeses from Woefuldane dairy in Minch, with apples from my garden, and biscuits [not locally grown I am afraid] from a supermarket.
Today at our usual Thursday morning session several of us were continuing with the hand piecing and by the end of the morning we had 6 blocks finished. Very satisfactory!
The next session devoted to making quilts for the refuge will be in early December. Date to be announced.
